New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently addressed a major weekend event. First, he confirmed a massive security breach at the latest Jay-Z show. Specifically, this chaotic incident happened at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, July 12.
Footage from Sunday’s show revealed a wild scene. Suddenly, unticketed guests began rushing the gates at Yankee Stadium. As a result, security personnel immediately shut down all stadium entrances.
Thousands of peaceful fans were temporarily stuck outside the venue. Consequently, Jay-Z delayed the highly anticipated concert for more than three hours. Eventually, he finally took the stage around 12:30 a.m. ET early Monday morning.
“Last night is something we’re going to follow up on,” Mamdani promised reporters. Furthermore, he explained that the breach caused a multiple-hour delay for many innocent New Yorkers.
Fortunately, patience paid off for the fans who finally made it inside. In fact, they were treated to an epic 40-plus song setlist. Additionally, the show featured massive guest appearances from Beyoncé, Rihanna, Pharrell, and Fat Joe.
The Yankees, Roc Nation, and Live Nation quickly released a joint statement. According to the release, large groups stormed over peaceful ticketholders. Ultimately, the NYPD helped reopen the gates safely to prioritize attendee welfare.
The mayor admitted he did not attend the epic Yankee Stadium residency. However, he loved seeing video clips of Nas and Jay-Z reuniting on stage.
Next, Mamdani revealed a fun piece of personal trivia. He shared that a clean version of Jay-Z’s 2001 classic The Blueprint was his first-ever CD.
“I learned about the importance of freedom of expression,” the mayor laughed. Specifically, he remembered listening to “Izzo (H.O.V.A.)” on his Walkman and realizing an explicit version existed.
