Post Malone Rap Return: Singer Teases Hip-Hop Roots on Instagram

Post Malone looks to be officially retiring his cowboy hat for now. Specifically, the singer teased exciting new music on Instagram on Thursday, July 16. The clip clearly shows a massive Post Malone rap return as he taps back into his original hip-hop roots.

“That one mofo that don’t know when to leave,” he captioned the viral clip. In the video, Post is seen slugging a Bud Light and puffing on a cigarette while the new song plays.

The Signature Melodic Sound

The unreleased track successfully features Post’s signature melodic rapping sound. Fans originally fell in love with this exact style on classic albums like beerbongs & bentleys and Hollywood’s Bleeding.

Therefore, this new snippet could signal his sonic direction for his upcoming LP. “All my money clean, not a damn stain on me,” he raps in the video. “I would pop a bean, 2016 Stoney.”

Fellow artist Tyla Yaweh quickly left a supportive comment on the post. “Ohhhhh this a hit,” he wrote, lending his official stamp of approval. Meanwhile, fans in the comments seemed to warmly welcome Post Malone’s highly anticipated return to hip-hop.

A Journey Through Genres

Post’s last official rap album was 2022’s Twelve Carat Toothache. That successful project officially debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Afterward, he leaned much more into traditional pop with his 2023 album, Austin. Most recently, he made a massive country pivot on his 2024 album, F-1 Trillion. That country project boasted massive hits like “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, which topped the Billboard Hot 100.

The Eternal Buzz Album

Now, the 31-year-old artist has been gearing up for his next major album, The Eternal Buzz. Currently, the highly anticipated project remains without a firm release date.

He first spoke about the project to Billboard at Coachella last year. At that time, he detailed recording the LP in Nashville and revealed he already had 35 songs finished.

Post Malone originally broke out as a rapper with his top 20 hit “White Iverson” in 2016. Eventually, he blossomed into a potent hitmaker with multiple Hot 100 No. 1s. His massive hits include “Psycho” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, “Rockstar” with 21 Savage, “Circles,” and “Sunflower” with Swae Lee.
