Veteran UK dubstep producer Rusko has officially announced an indefinite hiatus. He is stepping away from both music production and live touring.
On July 17, the legendary artist posted a heartfelt statement on his social media accounts. “I really wasn’t sure how, or even if, I wanted to share it more publicly,” he explained.
He admitted that he struggled to find the right words for his fans. Unfortunately, he realized he had ignored his brain and body for too long. This exhaustion ultimately led to a severe mental breakdown.
Rusko made it clear that he needed to leave the music industry for the foreseeable future. Consequently, he apologized to fans for canceling all of his upcoming shows.
“Your support over the years has meant everything to me,” he shared in his emotional post. He emphasized that he must prioritize his personal healing and recovery right now.
He cannot guarantee a return to the stage. However, he expressed a deep hope that this announcement is just a “see ya later, alligator” rather than a final goodbye.\
Fellow bass music producers quickly flooded his comments section with overwhelming support. Ravenscoon praised him as an all-time great and a massive inspiration.
Similarly, Levity credited Rusko for creating the foundation of the dubstep genre. “Without you, there wouldn’t be any of us making or listening to this music we all love,” he wrote. LSDream also thanked him for his legendary contributions and wished him a restful healing journey.
Rusko has successfully battled health issues in the past. In 2017, he took a similar hiatus to undergo treatment for stomach cancer. He triumphantly announced he was cancer-free later that year.
The producer’s early studio albums, O.M.G.! (2010) and Songs (2012), both landed on the Top Dance Albums chart. They reached No. 12 and No. 10, respectively. Most recently, he released a collaborative track called “Professor X” with Marco Strous in March.
