Rod Wave Arrested on 13 Felony Charges Including Assault and Gun Possession in Georgia

Rod Wave, a popular rapper known for hits like Heart on Ice and Tombstone, was recently arrested in Atlanta, Georgia, on serious charges. On May 20, police took the 25-year-old into custody in connection with a violent incident that happened last month.

According to reports, Rod Wave was charged with 13 felonies. These include aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, reckless conduct, tampering with evidence, and possession of a firearm during a felony. Authorities also say he pointed a gun at another person.

Despite the long list of charges, Rod Wave posted bond and was released from jail the same day. So far, neither he nor the police have given full details about what led to the arrest.

This is not Rod Wave’s first run-in with the law. In 2023, he was arrested for gun possession, but was released shortly after. His lawyer, Mark Rankin, claimed the charges were filed in error. Rankin explained that the police had incorrectly listed him as a convicted felon.

“If you took two minutes to look at his record, you would see he’s not a convicted felon,” Rankin said in a statement. “They cited a case where the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor. It takes two clicks to verify that.” Read more on the legal dispute here.

In that 2017 case, Rod Wave was originally charged with carrying a concealed firearm, which was a felony. But the court reduced the charge to a misdemeanor, which does not carry the same legal consequences.

Rod has also had other legal troubles in the past. In 2022, he faced domestic violence charges after police claimed he strangled his girlfriend during an argument. However, those charges were later dropped. Domestic violence laws vary by state, and it’s not unusual for victims to decide not to press charges, which may explain the case’s dismissal.

As a teen, Rod Wave also spent time in juvenile detention after a 2015 incident where he accidentally shot another person in the foot. Authorities once considered charging him with attempted murder, but the case was dropped after it was ruled an accident.

This latest arrest has once again raised questions about the rapper’s lifestyle. While his music often explores pain, mental health, and overcoming struggle, these legal issues show that his personal life continues to face real challenges.
