Pusha T fires shots at Drake and Birdman again on a new song. The track is called “Damage Control,” a collaboration with Wale. On the track, King Push appears to be talking about the former Cash Money partners and Drake’s recent legal action against UMG.
He raps lines clearly aimed at his rivals: “The realest Birdman, I just cock-a-doodle-doo / Doorstep, doorstep, I get it right through / Bruised egos, man, you n-ggas might sue / New Jack Ninos telling on the crew.” The line about “bruised egos” and “might sue” is a clear reference to Drake’s legal challenges against his own label, UMG. Drake and Birdman have not yet responded to the song.
King Push also openly mocked his long-time enemy for suing UMG over his feud with Kendrick Lamar. “I don’t think there was ever anything subliminal to be said ever again in life,” he said. “Not only just musically, like bro, I actually was in Canada. I actually had a show and made it home. So, I can’t pay attention to none of that.” He added, “I did the dance for real, not to come back and tiptoe around anything.”
The Clipse star made it clear he has lost respect for Drake. “I don’t rate him no more. The suing thing is bigger than some rap s**t. I just don’t rate you.” Pusha T feels the legal action cheapens the art of rap beef. “It just kind of cheapens the art of it once we gotta have real questions about suing and litigation. Like, what? For this?”
Pusha T’s problems with Drake led to a major business move. He and Clipse left Def Jam before releasing their reunion album, Let God Sort Em Out. The Clipse rapper said Def Jam wanted him to remove Kendrick Lamar’s guest feature from their new album, “Chains & Whips.”
Pusha T refused to do this. He said, “They wanted me to ask Kendrick to censor his verse, which of course I was never doing. And then they wanted me to take the record off.” After he refused for a month, the label lawyer told him, “We’ll just drop the Clipse.” Pusha T said this was not possible since he was still a solo artist there. But the label then agreed to let them all go.
It was revealed that Def Jam worried about how it would look. They did not like the idea of two of Drake’s main rivals teaming up while his lawsuit against their parent company, UMG, was ongoing. This shows how major feuds affect the business side of the music industry. The new track ensures that Pusha T fires shots at Drake and Birdman, keeping the beef alive.
