50 Cent New York Mayor Tax: Rapper Opposes Plan

50 Cent New York Mayor Tax Debate: Rapper Opposes New Plan

50 Cent New York Mayor tax views clash with a likely new leader. The rapper has revealed he is not a fan of Zohran Mamdani, who is expected to become New York’s next mayor. On Instagram, 50 Cent shared a video. It showed the Democratic mayoral candidate being interviewed on The Breakfast Club. Mamdani discussed his proposed tax policies.

Mamdani explained his plan: “What I’ve proposed is we raise $10 billion to pay for our entire economic agenda and start to Trump proof our city because we know he’ll use federal funding as leverage over this city.” He detailed two main ways to do this. “The first is to match the state’s top corporate tax rate to that of New Jersey. We are at 7.25%, they are at 11.5%.” He believes companies can pay these rates in New York, just as they do in New Jersey. This tax would apply to all corporations doing business in New York State, not just those headquartered in the city.

The second part of his plan involves taxing wealthy New Yorkers. “The second is taxing the top 1% of New Yorkers,” Mamdani said. “We’re talking about people who make $1 million a year or more, taxing them by a flat 2% tax rate increase.” He directly addressed 50 Cent. “I know 50 Cent is listening, he’s not going to be very happy about this, he tends to not like this tax policy but I want to be very clear, this is about $20,000 a year.”

50 Cent’s Strong Reaction and Offer

50 Cent quickly reacted in his Instagram caption. “Where did he come from whose friend is this?” he wrote. “I’m not feeling this plan no. I will give him $258,750 and a first class one way ticket away from NY.” He even threatened to tell President Donald Trump. “I’m telling Trump what he said too !” This shows his strong dislike for the proposed tax increases.

The rapper has criticized New York’s current mayor, Eric Adams, before. Adams plans to run as an independent in the next election due to recent issues. 50 Cent previously spoke out against Adams’ plan. This program aimed to give pre-paid debit cards to migrants. “WTF mayor Adams call my phone, I don’t understand how this works — somebody explain,” the rapper wrote on Instagram. “Can’t explain this I’m stuck maybe TRUMP is the answer.”

A History of Political Comments

50 Cent has a history of political endorsements. He previously supported Donald Trump, preferring the Republican’s economic agenda over Joe Biden’s tax increases. However, he later pulled back from that endorsement after facing criticism. His latest comments on the 50 Cent New York Mayor tax plans show his consistent focus on financial policy.

This highlights a key point of public debate. Should high earners contribute more to city services? Or do such taxes drive them away? This new mayoral race will likely feature these discussions.
